The challenge

The potential source of contamination for the project, being a cemetery, is related to the generation of an effluent known as NecrochorumeThe composition and primary constitution of such is explained by the presence of ions and organic matter, mainly nitrogen compounds. This results in high concentrations of BOD and various forms of nitrogen, contributing to a decrease in the availability of dissolved oxygen.

The approval project for the Treatment system The Biological Effluent Project was developed to comply with current legislation, Article 18 of State Decree 8,468 of 1976, where the goal is system efficiency.

Contamination by Necrochorume It carries a load of pathogenic microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Improper disposal can lead to serious public health risks.

The Project

The treatment system It was designed after studies and treatability tests to ensure the safety, efficiency, and quality of the treatment process, The treatment system It operates with the dosing of chemical products, an aeration system for organic matter degradation, a filtration system with quartz, activated carbon, and zeolite columns, and final polishing with ozone injection and recirculation.

The technical project was presented and approved by the environmental agency, with authorization for reuse in irrigation.

The impact

To be one of the few or the only cemetery to have a necrochorume treatment system in Brazil, to have socio-environmental awareness and sustainable actions at the development. Reduction in water consumption by using treated water for irrigation of the green area (lawn).
