Groundwater analysis for environmental monitoring or assessment
As defined in the projectremediation executive technicianAs stated in the Remediation Executive Technical Plan, campaigns of groundwater monitoring must be conducted during the implementation and operation of the remediation system at the contaminated site. During the operation period of the remediation system, the Legal Responsible must work with the Environmental Consulting and submit periodic technical reports to the responsible environmental authority, which include the collection and analysis of groundwater samples to monitor contaminant levels at the site, including:
- The analytical results of the monitoring of the efficiency and effectiveness of the remediation system;
- The representation and indication of the evolution (reduction and containment) of the contamination plumes;
- Changes in the scenarios of the human health risk analysis;
- And information regarding the maintenance and operation of the remediation system.
Sampling Campaign - Closure Monitoring
Once the remediation goals are achieved, the Legal Responsible Party shall commence the closure monitoring by conducting four sampling and analysis campaigns during periods of both higher (March and April) and lower (September and October) precipitation rates, aiming to assess the maintenance of contaminant concentrations below the remediation goals defined for the area.
The Closure Monitoring for Contaminated Area Management, occurs with the collection and analysis of groundwater from existing monitoring wells at the site to monitor the values of the chemicals of interest, where it has achieved the goals defined in the intervention plan.
- Technical visit for the inspection of the project and monitoring wells.
- Collection and analysis of groundwater samples.
- Analysis and interpretation of analytical results.
- Preparation of a Technical Report with conclusions of the results for monitoring and tracking the contamination level of the area.
- Presentation of the Technical Reports to the environmental agency.
Term of Area Rehabilitation
After the completion of the Closure Monitoring Campaigns and maintaining the goals defined in the Intervention Plan for the remediation of the contaminated area, a request should be made to the environmental agency for the issuance of the Rehabilitation Certificate for Declared Use (AR), where the classification of the land or area will be changed to 'Rehabilitated (AR).
The request for the Area Rehabilitation Certificate is made through the Environmental Advisory, presenting the history of the contaminated area management process and the goals achieved in remediation.
Projeto Ambiental has in its history certificates of rehabilitated areas issued by the competent authority, for which Projeto Ambiental executed the Contaminated Area Management.
